Insider Tips from the Welschen Family
Welcoming guests to Zermatt since 1931, here is our family's curated advice to ensure you get the absolute most out of your alpine adventure.
1. Skier Smart: Instant Access
The lower station of the Sunnegga funicular railway is just across the street from our hotel entrance. Purchase your ski passes online via the official Zermatt Bergbahnen portal ahead of time to completely bypass morning ticket queues. You will reach the slopes in under 10 minutes.
Book Ski Passes2. The Perfect Matterhorn Reflection
Board the historic Gornergrat Railway early in the morning to beat the crowds. Get off at the Rotenboden station and take the short 10-minute walk down to Riffelsee lake. On windless mornings, the Matterhorn reflects perfectly in the mirror-like alpine waters.
Gornergrat Timetable3. The Ultimate Scenic Rail
If traveling from St. Moritz or Davos, book the world-renowned Glacier Express. For the ultimate luxury journey, we recommend the Excellence Class, which features a premium 5-course regional tasting menu, concierge service, and guaranteed window seats.
